Obituary of Edward Cameron McLean

McLEAN, Edward Cameron – After a short, but hard fought battle with lung disease, Ed passed away at age 62, on August 2, 2011 at Chatham – Kent Health Alliance. Ed is the beloved son of Margaret and the late James (1968) McLean of Tilbury. He will be greatly missed by brother Tom of Chatham and sister-in-law Gertrude of Tilbury. He is predeceased by older brother James (2004), and sister-in-law Lea (2010). Nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, as well as his best friend and cribbage opponent, Pete King, will sadly miss him. Even though Ed spent 8 years in the Royal Canadian Navy and another 20 years on the DEW Line in the Canadian Arctic, his home was always Tilbury. For the past few years, he has lived on his houseboat at Luken Marina, where he proudly served as night watchman. He was a member of Branch 206, Tilbury Legion and could often be found sitting on his bar stool doing crossword puzzles or embroiled in a hard fought game of crib. According to Ed’s wishes, he is to be cremated, which has been entrusted to Reaume Funeral Home in Tilbury and there will not be a funeral service. He requested that his ashes be forwarded to the Royal Canadian Navy for burial at sea. Many thanks need to be extended to the doctors, nurses, respiratory techs and everyone else in the ICU at CKHA who tried to make his stay as comfortable as possible. Ed wanted his life celebrated, not mourned, so family and friends can join together, casually, and tip one back in his honour at Tilbury Legion, 4 Stewart Street, on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 1 – 4 pm
