COWAN, Elizabeth “Betty” Helen (nee Brooks, Gardiner)

84 years, of Tilbury, passed away peacefully at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Beloved wife of Harlon Cowan of 67 years. Loving mother of the late Sue Anne Cowan, Gary (Becky) Cowan, Karen (Bill) Marvin and Todd (Jill) Cowan. Chosen daughter of the late Lorne and Nellie (nee Hornick) Gardiner. Dearest Gram to Jeremy (Naomi) Cowan, Cory (Erin) Cowan, Chad (Cindy) Foster, Ryan (Denise) Foster, Janis Foster, Melissa, Brittany, Luke and Cassandra Cowan. Great-Gram to Wyatt and Emma Foster, Amber and Holly Kalp-Foster and Avery James and Lily Elaine Cowan. Loving sister to the late Irene Pyman, late William (late Betty) Brooks, late Jack (late Jean) Brooks, late Norman (late Gwen) Brooks and late Marion (late Douglas) Collins. Betty started her career at Bell Telephone in Tilbury as a telephone operator before working at the Licence Office. She then worked at Knechtels-Foodland, before retiring. She was a member of the Tilbury IODE for many years. She loved to spend time with her husband Harlon baking and bird watching; she particularly enjoyed cardinals and blue jays. Betty was also known to her family and friends for having “the best apple pie.”  Visitation at Reaume Funeral Home, 6 Canal St. W., Tilbury on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m Tuesday, October 9.
