Obituary of Jack McKinlay

MCKINLAY, John R. "Jack"

Born January 12, 1944, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023. Beloved husband of Jeannette McKinlay (née Rivard).  Devoted father of David (Kris) and Aaron (friend Michelle).  Loving papa to Michael Slade, Melissa, Meaghan and Quinn.  Pre-deceased by his parents Robert and Ilene (née Cottingham) McKinlay.  Brother to Fred (late Marg), Jo-Ann (late Bill) Hyatt, late Dick (Linda), and brother-in-law to late Betty (late Ray) Bisnaire, Barb (late Don) Boug, Donna (Claire) Atkinson, Jim (Barb) Rivard and Judy Rivard.  Jack will be missed by many nieces, nephews and numerous dear friends and business associates.

Jack was always a hard worker.  His life took him into various fields of employment, which included working on the construction of Highway 401 with his father’s tractor, delivering fuel for Bud Murphy, looking after cattle for George Morris, having his own fuel delivery service, and selling cars for Lanoue’s and then for Lally’s.

Jack was also a Share Crop farmer who improved his beloved farm’s appearance by planting lots of new grass and trees.  This gave him a reason to do what he loved most; Spending more time at his farm but this also created a battle between him and the beavers that wanted to take his trees.  In the end, all his hard work created a beautiful oasis for himself, his family and his many friends.

Jack was one of the original founding members of the Tilbury Kinsmen Club where he held every office position over his lifetime membership.  Jack was also an avid hockey player, and spent numerous years playing for Joe’s Shell in the Sunday morning hockey league.  His love of all the people he met, near and far, old and young, rich or poor, was without measure.  Jack made people feel important, and that in return, gave him immense pleasure.

Jack’s favorite bible verse, which was probably the only one he remembered from Sunday School was,

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Jack, we are certain that the next people you entertain will love you as much as we do.

-Love your family
