Obituary of Vince Audette

In loving memory of Richard “Vincent” Audette, who died Sunday, July 11, 2021 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Vince was born in Fletcher, Ontario 87 years ago, on May 3, 1934. He was the son of Philias and Emeline (Simard) Audette. He will be dearly missed by his wife Shirley (Rankin), son Bob Odette (Debi), daughters Judith Gagnon (Jeff) and Jennifer Drew (Bret). Also cherishing their pepe are James Hamilton Jr. (Jana), Kimberly Cottingham (Jake), Kristen Mills (Jason), Danielle Hyatt (Darren), Caitlin Odette, Rylee Drew and Garrett Drew, as well as ten great grandchildren. Vince is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews throughout southern Ontario. He is survived by one sister, Jeanne Quenneville (Polydore, deceased) of Chatham. Predeceased are Treffle Odette (Mae) formerly of Grande Pointe, and Henry Audette (Jean), Marie Bechard (Leonard), Francis (Scott) Audette (Pauline) and Doreen Skipper (Ken) all formerly of Chatham.

Vince enjoyed working in his yard, driving his new cars and spent many weekends over the years at their trailer in Lakewood Park on Lake Erie. In his later years he became an avid NASCAR fan, watching the races on television whenever they took place. He loved family get togethers that often included games of euchre or dominoes. Woe to the person who held up the flow of those games!

Vince started work at a young age in the Fletcher Tile Yard, which was located next to the family home in Fletcher. He retired in 1995 from the former GM Trim plant on Lauzon Road in Windsor, having started there when the plant opened in 1966. Prior to that, he was employed at Olsen’s in Tilbury.

The family sends a special thank you to the staff at the Revera Chatham Retirement Resort as well as the staff at the Chatham Kent Hospice.
