Obituary of Joy Mellow

Mellow, Julia "Joy" (née Foster)

Joy, who happily celebrated her 101st birthday, on December 28th, passed away on February 22, 2023 with family by her side.  She is predeceased by her loving husband, Norman, whom she was married to for over 62 years.  Her "diamond in the rough".  Very proud mother of Carolyn (Ronald) Rivait and Gordon (Sharon) Mellow.  Predeceased by her daughter-in-law Beverly Mellow and Joy's parents Fennell and Paul Foster and her siblings - Allan, Murray, Marion, Janice, Donna, Fred, Earl, Larry and Ruth Anne.  Dear Grandmother of Stacy Everett, Derek Rivait, Patrick Parent and Jade Parent.  Loving Great Grandmother to Clarke and William Everett.  She will be dearly missed by all her nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Joy was a wonderful teacher in the Essex county school system for over 30 years.  She was a proud member of the Rebecca Lodge for over 68 years.  Mom enjoyed making many beautiful quilts, working on her family tree books and recently knitting lap robes.  She was a choir member of Strangfield United Church.  Joy also belonged to Quinn United Church and Tilbury United Church.  She will be dearly missed by all of her friends that she made in these organizations.  Our family would like to extend a huge thank you to all the caregivers at Hudson Manor.  This was her home for over 8 years and she was treated with loving care.  Also, a special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, for their excellent care.

Visitation will be held at Reaume Funeral Home Inc., 6 Canal St. W., Tilbury on February 27th, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and then on February 28th, 2023 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.  There will be a small Rebekah Lodge memorial ceremony held at 10:30 A.M. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Tilbury,  will occur after the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice or Comber United Church.  Online condolences can be shared at www.reaumefh.com.
