Obituary of Emma Duplessis (nee: Scherle)

DUPLESSIS, Emma (nee Scherle) 98 years, of Tilbury, passed away peacefully at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Born in Hliboka, Austria on October 22, 1914. Beloved wife of the late Francis (Frank) Duplessis (1968). Daughter of the late Frank and Anne (Sauer) Scherle. Dear mother of Alice and late husband Dr. Jim Recker of St. Clair Beach, Beatrice Mallette of Toronto, Gordon and wife Sarah Duplessis of Chatham, Shirley Ann and Ken Mailloux of Comber. Predeceased by sons-in-law Victor Mallette (2009) and Peter Lanoue. Proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren. Dearly missed by many nieces and nephews. Also greatly missed by feline companion “Poopsie”. Survived by one stepsister Marion and husband Melton Bockman of San Jose, California. Predeceased by brother Carl Scherle (1982) and his wife Jean Scherle (1993). Predeceased by stepbrother Rudy Scherle (2006) and his wife Ilene (Bunny) Scherle (2008), late stepsister Isabelle and late husband Harold Scannel, late stepsister Catherine and late husband Victor Vorce. Emma was a 70 year member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Women’s League, a life member and past president of St. Charles Altar Society, a life member of Elizabeth S. Sharp Chapter IODE, a current member of the Comber Chapter IODE, a life member of the Treasions of the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham, and a member of Comber Golden Age Club, Merlin Friendship Club, Wheatley and District friendship Club, and Tilbury Leisure Centre. Emma received the Golden Heart Award for Volunteer Services, and she was recognized in June 1993 by Kent County’s Warden Dennis Scott and Essex-Kent MP Jerry Pickard as one ofKent County’s most outstanding senior citizens. Visitation at Reaume Funeral Home, 6 Canal St. W., Tilbury from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. C.W.L. prayers 2 p.m. Sunday. IODE service 7 p.m. Sunday. Parish prayers 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service from the funeral home Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., then to St. Francis Xavier Church, Tilbury for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
